International Women’s Day 2026: A Message from KAFI Foundation Founder Theresa Chibogu

International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the achievements of women, reflect on progress, and highlight the work that still needs to be done to ensure equality, empowerment, and opportunity for all. The theme for this year, “Give to Gain,” reminds us that the true power of change lies in our willingness to give our time, knowledge, support, and opportunities to uplift others.

For many, giving is about sharing resources or mentoring others. But for me, as a woman and the founder of KAFI Foundation, it is about living this principle every day and demonstrating that when we give, we gain not only personal fulfillment but also a stronger, more empowered community.

KAFI Foundation: Empowering Children, Youth, Women, and Communities

Since 2018, KAFI Foundation, a youth-led, community-based nonprofit organization, has been on a mission to empower children, youth, and women across Africa through financial literacy, leadership development, and entrepreneurship programs. Our programs aim to close financial literacy gaps, equip individuals with the skills to make informed decisions, and provide opportunities to create sustainable livelihoods.

Through the KAFI Movement, we have reached over 300,000 children, youth, and women, impacting lives and communities in profound ways. These numbers are not just statistics. They represent real lives transformed, real communities uplifted, and real leaders who are now shaping a better future.

Giving as a Way of Life

The principle of “Give to Gain” resonates deeply with me because it reflects the essence of my journey as a woman leader. I have always believed that true leadership is measured not by personal achievements but by the positive impact one creates for others. This belief inspired me to establish KAFI Foundation and build the KAFI Movement, a network of trained leaders who are passionate about empowering their communities.

Giving in this context is multifaceted. It is about sharing knowledge. Teaching financial literacy to children and adults equips them with the ability to manage resources effectively, make informed choices, and plan for the future. It is about providing opportunities. Empowering women and youth to start businesses, access internships, or participate in community programs opens doors to economic independence and social impact. It is about mentoring leaders. Guiding young leaders, especially women, ensures that empowerment multiplies, as these leaders in turn inspire and train others. It is about building communities. Investing time and energy into community projects fosters resilience, collaboration, and a culture of giving back.

Through giving, we do not just help others. We create a cycle of empowerment that strengthens communities and transforms societies.

A Living Example of “Give to Gain”

This year’s theme is particularly close to my heart because I see myself as a living example of its message. Over the years, I have dedicated my life to creating opportunities for others. By giving my time, knowledge, and resources, I have gained the incredible reward of witnessing lives transformed.

From teaching financial literacy to young women in schools to mentoring youth leaders in communities, every effort has reinforced the truth that giving is a catalyst for growth, not just for others, but for oneself. Each success story, each life impacted, each community uplifted is a gain that cannot be measured merely in numbers. It is a gain in human potential, confidence, and empowerment.

Women as Agents of Change

Women have always been pillars of strength, resilience, and change. When women are equipped with knowledge, skills, and opportunities, they uplift not only themselves but also their families and communities. At KAFI Foundation, we have seen countless examples of women stepping into leadership roles, teaching financial literacy, starting small businesses, and inspiring youth to dream bigger.

For instance, women trained through KAFI Clubs have become financial literacy champions in schools, guiding children on budgeting, saving, and understanding the value of money. Others have initiated community projects that address local challenges while creating opportunities for income generation. These women demonstrate that giving is not just an act of charity. It is an investment in the future.

The Effect of Giving

When women give, the impact multiplies. One act of giving can ripple through generations. A mother who teaches her child to manage money creates a foundation of financial literacy that can influence the child’s entire life. A mentor who guides a young woman to start a business empowers her not only to succeed but to mentor others. A community leader who invests time in education or training fosters a culture of knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

At KAFI Foundation, we have seen these ripple effects firsthand. Our programs have empowered over 300,000 individuals who are now active participants in building stronger communities. By giving knowledge, resources, and guidance, we are creating a chain reaction of empowerment that will continue to benefit generations to come.

Give to Gain: More Than a Theme

“Give to Gain” is more than a slogan. It is a way of life. It is about understanding that the act of giving is not one-sided. When we give, we gain insight, satisfaction, and a sense of purpose. When women give, they gain confidence, influence, and the ability to shape their communities positively. When communities give, they gain resilience, cohesion, and long-term sustainability.

As a woman, I have experienced this truth personally. The more I have invested in empowering others, the more I have grown as a leader, as a mentor, and as a changemaker. The successes of those I have guided, the smiles of those I have helped, and the confidence I have nurtured are rewards that cannot be measured monetarily. They are the true gains of giving.

Celebrating KAFI Women

This International Women’s Day, I celebrate the incredible women within the KAFI Movement who are leading the charge in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment. Your dedication, resilience, and compassion are creating lasting change. You are proof that women are powerful agents of transformation.

Every training you lead, every mentorship session you conduct, and every community project you initiate is an embodiment of this year’s theme. You give, and in giving, you gain not only skills and confidence but also the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a real difference in the lives of others.

A Call to Action

International Women’s Day is a moment to reflect, celebrate, and commit to action. As we honor women and their contributions, we must also ask ourselves how we can give to gain in our own lives and communities.

We can share our knowledge by mentoring someone, teaching a skill, or sharing our expertise. We can provide opportunities by supporting women-led businesses, creating internships, or facilitating community projects. We can invest in others by contributing our time, energy, and resources to causes that uplift women, youth, and children. We can lead by example and demonstrate that giving is a path to personal and communal growth.

By taking these steps, we ensure that the principle of “Give to Gain” extends far beyond a single day. It becomes a lasting movement that strengthens communities, empowers women, and inspires future generations.

The Future We Are Building

At KAFI Foundation, our vision is to continue growing the KAFI Movement, reaching more women, youth, and children across Africa. We believe that empowerment is not limited by geography, social status, or circumstance. Every individual has the potential to lead, to teach, and to transform their communities.

Through financial literacy, leadership training, and entrepreneurship programs, we aim to create a future where every woman and young person has the tools, knowledge, and confidence to succeed. In this future, the act of giving will continue to be at the heart of progress because when women give, communities gain.

Conclusion

As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, let us embrace the theme “Give to Gain” in both word and action. Giving is not a sacrifice. It is an investment in human potential. It is a commitment to nurturing leaders, empowering women, and creating communities that thrive.

I am proud to be part of this journey, proud to be a woman leading change, and proud to witness the incredible impact of women across Africa who are choosing to give. Each act of giving strengthens our communities, uplifts lives, and builds a future filled with opportunity.

Let this International Women’s Day be a reminder that every contribution, no matter how small, has the power to create lasting change. When women give, the world gains stronger communities, empowered youth, and a generation ready to lead with knowledge, courage, and compassion.
