What I have learnt about consumer awareness is that it has to do with the customer that comes to your business either to just buy or develop a relationship with you through the product or service you render. However the customer also need to know their rights an responsibilities when making purchases as some times people fall into scams, fraud and unfair treatment by business. So knowing all these will protect the customer. Now a customer can start by making a research on a product or business before they get into business to avoid any misunderstanding. Recently. Customers are now given an opportunity to buy without physically holding the product and buying online but that also opens a can of worms. As they provide their financial information online, buy without knowing the person or even getting scammed their money. Which is why they need to research the business first before searching the product.

This module has taught me that consumer awareness is all about knowing our rights and responsibilities as consumers and being able to make informed decisions about the products and services we use. I have learned that it is important to carefully evaluate what we buy and not just trust everything we see, especially online. In today’s world, scams and misleading advertisements are becoming more common, and this is a serious problem in my country, Eswatini, where many people lose large amounts of money to fake online deals and non-existent products. Personally, this lesson opened my eyes to the importance of being cautious, doing proper research before buying, and educating others in my community about consumer rights. As a young person, I feel responsible to help raise awareness so that more people can protect themselves from fraud and make smarter, safer purchasing decisions.

This module has taught me about consumer awareness which means the rights and responsibilities that a consumer must know and how to evaluate goods and also services rendered to you as a consumer . This module is important because it guides one to be street smart by preventing fraud , promoting ethical business and empowering informed decisions . One of the consumer rights are protection from harmful products , the right to true information about a product eg expiry dates ,access to fair market options , and compensation for faulty goods and services eg expired goods and broken goods . Common consumer issues are , fraud , misleading ads that are not in line with services rendered, then poor or quality goods and services eg selling stale bread and being rude to consumers. Means to protect oneself as a consumer include , researching about a shop and product before purchase , keeping receipts and records for accountability, reporting fraud to the authorities of the company eg customer service and use of apps and social media to flag scams and bad services . In this digital era before being scammed it’s good to verify eg verification of any cryptocurrency investment on the blockchain , a legit investment is easily verified on the blockchain. Avoiding suspicious links of eg gifts and get Rich quickly schemes ,two factor verification and reading of reviews about a website . Ethical consumption is about having a business that is known to support trade , eco friendly transparent businesses . In schools eg Kafi it is good to use games and story telling to also teach them about the same lesson whilst they are youth and protect them ,
