INTERN SPOTLIGHT:
From learning financial literacy to teaching the next generation, Cohort 6 Fellow, Adewuyi Anuoluwapo Damilola, is turning knowledge into impact at Good Fountain Height School, Nigeria.
Financial literacy becomes powerful when knowledge is shared, understood, and put into practice. For Adewuyi Anuoluwapo Damilola, her internship is proving that young leaders can play an important role in shaping how the next generation understands money.
As a Financial Literacy Intern at Good Fountain Height School, Nigeria, Adewuyi has taken on the responsibility of introducing Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) students to essential money management principles.
Her mission goes beyond teaching financial concepts. She is helping young people develop the mindset and practical skills needed to make informed financial decisions.
BRINGING MONEY EDUCATION INTO THE CLASSROOM
During her internship, Adewuyi facilitated learning sessions covering important financial literacy topics, including:
- Budgeting: Understanding how to plan and manage money.
- Saving: Developing responsible saving habits from an early age.
- Financial Goals: Learning to set financial targets and work towards achieving them.
- Needs vs. Wants: Understanding the difference between essential expenses and unnecessary spending.
By introducing these concepts to students, she is contributing to a generation that can approach money with greater knowledge, confidence, and responsibility.
BEYOND TEACHING: DISCOVERING HER LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL
For Adewuyi, the experience has also been a journey of personal and professional development.
Standing before students, simplifying financial concepts, and creating an engaging learning environment have strengthened her communication, public speaking, leadership, and teaching abilities.
More importantly, the experience has deepened her passion for financial literacy advocacy and reinforced her belief in the importance of taking financial education to young people.
THE NEXT CHAPTER: A FINANCIAL LITERACY DAY
But Adewuyi is not stopping at classroom lessons.
Recognising the importance of sustaining learning beyond regular teaching sessions, she is currently planning a Financial Literacy Day for students at Good Fountain Height School.
The proposed event will feature debates, public speaking activities, and interactive financial literacy exercises designed to reinforce what students have learned.
This initiative reflects an important principle of effective financial education: young people should not only learn about money; they should also have opportunities to discuss, demonstrate, and apply their knowledge.
GROWING LEADERS. TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES.
Adewuyi Anuoluwapo Damilola's journey is a reminder that financial literacy advocacy does not always begin with large institutions or major programmes. Sometimes, it begins with one committed young leader entering a classroom and making financial education accessible to students.
Through the KAFI Financial Literacy Leaders Fellowship, young Africans are equipped with the knowledge, practical exposure, and leadership experience to take financial literacy beyond theory and into schools, workplaces, and communities.
Her story represents what the Fellowship seeks to achieve: developing Community Finance Leaders who can create meaningful change wherever they are deployed.
One intern. One school. Countless opportunities to shape better financial futures.
