Every Child in Makoko Deserves Financial Literacy!
At KAFI Foundation, we believe financial literacy is not a privilege, it’s a life skill every child deserves, regardless of where they are born.
This week, we took a bold step toward t9hat vision by reaching out to one of Lagos’ most underserved communities ' Makoko Slum' through our partnership with the YALI Lagos Network for the Back to School 2025 Program.
Makoko is often called “the Venice of Africa,” but beneath its beauty lies a story of resilience, struggle, and hope. Many children there face barriers to quality education and opportunities that others take for granted. Yet, their dreams are just as big, and their potential is limitless all they need are the right tools.
That’s why our team at KAFI Foundation showed up with love, purpose, and action. We donated our “First Money Steps” Financial Literacy Board Games and textbooks these creative learning kits designed to make money management fun, relatable, and easy to understand.
These materials help children learn how to save, plan, and invest wisely, using engaging stories, games, and real-life scenarios. Through play and participation, they begin to understand that money is not just for spending, it’s for building dreams, securing futures, and transforming communities.
For us, this is more than a project; it’s a movement, one child, one school, and one community at a time. Because when children are financially literate, they grow into adults who make informed choices, break cycles of poverty, and contribute meaningfully to society.
As we continue our journey to make financial literacy accessible to every child in Africa, we invite individuals, organizations, and schools to join us. Together, we can plant the seeds of financial empowerment in every heart and classroom starting from Makoko to every corner of the continent.
