Introducing Cohort 6 of the KAFI Financial Literacy Leadership Fellowship

Meet the Changemakers:

Across Africa, a powerful movement is steadily reshaping the narrative around money, leadership, and opportunity. It is a movement driven by young, purpose-led leaders who understand that financial literacy is a fundamental life skill and a catalyst for sustainable development. At the center of this movement is the Kick Against Financial Illiteracy (KAFI) Foundation, and through its flagship initiative, the Financial Literacy Leadership Fellowship (FLLF), KAFI continues to raise a new generation of financially empowered changemakers.

With over 450 applications received from passionate individuals across the continent, Cohort 6 of the KAFI Financial Literacy Leadership Fellowship is rounding up. Each application reflected a strong desire to learn, lead, and serve. After a rigorous and competitive selection process, we are proud to introduce some of the outstanding young leaders selected for Cohort 6, individuals who have demonstrated commitment, integrity, and a clear vision for advancing financial literacy within their communities.

Cohort 6 is more than a fellowship group. It is a collective of purpose-driven changemakers, united by a shared mission to promote financial awareness, responsible decision-making, and economic empowerment across Africa.

A Continental Fellowship with a Clear Mission

The KAFI Financial Literacy Leadership Fellowship was created in response to one of Africa’s most persistent development challenges: widespread financial illiteracy. Across many communities, limited access to financial education continues to hinder economic growth, increase vulnerability to debt, and limit opportunities for individuals and families.

KAFI’s approach is intentional and people-centered empower leaders first, so they can empower others.

Cohort 6 brings together fellows from different countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds. These fellows include students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, and community advocates. While their experiences may differ, they are united by a shared belief that financial literacy is a powerful tool for breaking cycles of poverty and building resilient communities.

Through this fellowship, participants are not only trained in financial concepts, but also equipped with the leadership skills needed to turn knowledge into action.

What Makes Cohort 6 Exceptional

Every KAFI cohort represents progress, but Cohort 6 stands out for its depth, diversity, and determination.

1. Diversity Across the African Continent

Cohort 6 reflects the richness of Africa diverse languages, cultures, and socioeconomic realities. This diversity strengthens the fellowship, as fellows learn from one another’s perspectives while working toward a shared goal.

2. Purpose-Driven Leadership

Many fellows applied with clear community challenges in mind, ranging from poor savings culture and youth unemployment to lack of access to basic financial education. Their motivation goes beyond personal development; it is rooted in service and impact.

3. Commitment to Ethical Leadership

Selection into the fellowship emphasizes character, accountability, and willingness to learn. Cohort 6 fellows have shown that leadership is not about position, but about responsibility and integrity.

Fellowship Curriculum: Building Financially Literate Leaders

The KAFI Financial Literacy Leadership Fellowship is structured to be practical, engaging, and impact-oriented. The curriculum focuses on four key pillars designed to prepare fellows for real-world leadership.

Personal Finance

Fellows gain hands-on knowledge in budgeting, saving, debt management, investing, and long-term financial planning. This ensures they first apply financial discipline in their own lives.

Financial Literacy Education

Participants are trained to simplify financial concepts and communicate them effectively to diverse audiences, including young people, entrepreneurs, and underserved communities.

Leadership Development

Leadership training equips fellows with skills in communication, teamwork, ethical decision-making, and community engagement essential for leading initiatives and mobilizing others.

Entrepreneurship and Economic Empowerment

Given Africa’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem, fellows explore business fundamentals, value creation, and income-generation strategies that support sustainable livelihoods.

Together, these pillars ensure that fellows graduate not only with knowledge, but with the confidence and competence to lead.

The KAFI Hub Career Tiers: A Pathway for Growth and Impact

KAFI’s commitment to long-term impact is reflected in the KAFI Hub Career Tiers, a structured pathway that allows fellows to grow within the organization and expand their influence.

Fellows progress through the following stages:

Trainee ➝ Alumni ➝ Mentor ➝ Country Coordinator / Deputy

Each stage comes with increased responsibility and leadership expectations. This structure ensures continuity, mentorship, and institutional memory, while empowering leaders to scale impact at community, national, and continental levels.

Through this pathway, KAFI is building a sustainable leadership pipeline capable of driving financial literacy efforts long after the fellowship ends.

From Learning to Action: Creating Community Impact

KAFI believes that learning must translate into action. Throughout the fellowship, Cohort 6 fellows are encouraged to apply their knowledge through community-based initiatives such as:

  • Financial literacy workshops and seminars
  • Youth and school outreach programs
  • Online education and awareness campaigns
  • Peer mentoring and financial coaching
  • Advocacy for responsible financial practices

These initiatives enable fellows to serve as multipliers of knowledge, extending the fellowship’s impact far beyond individual participants.

The collective effort of Cohort 6 is expected to influence hundreds of households, small businesses, and young people across Africa contributing to improved financial behaviors and stronger economic resilience.

Celebrating Cohort 6 and the Journey Ahead

Selection into the KAFI Financial Literacy Leadership Fellowship represents both an achievement and a responsibility. It is a call to lead with integrity, serve with humility, and remain committed to lifelong learning.

As Cohort 6 begins this journey, we celebrate their courage to step forward and their readiness to be part of a continental movement. These fellows are not just participants; they are ambassadors of financial literacy and agents of positive change.
