I have learned that understanding taxes and government systems is essential for becoming a responsible, informed, and impactful citizen. Since paying taxes is a compulsory civic duty, every individual should be aware of how taxes work and why they are important. Promoting tax education empowers citizens to support national development and helps them make better financial decisions that contribute to both personal and societal progress.

Taxes serve as the backbone of public development, funding essential services such as healthcare, education, security, and infrastructure. Avoiding or evading taxes hinders national growth, as it reduces the resources available for government projects that benefit everyone. Therefore, public awareness and mindset change are crucial in building a culture of compliance and transparency.

This can be achieved through education, community sensitization, and advocacy campaigns that teach people about their tax responsibilities and the link between taxes and national development. By understanding and fulfilling their civic duties, citizens contribute to a stronger economy and a more equitable society.

In conclusion, I have realized that tax awareness and civic responsibility go hand in hand in achieving sustainable national development and financial independence. When citizens understand their roles, they become active partners in nation-building rather than passive observers.

Taxes are not burdens or theft; rather, they are vital contributions that make it possible for governments to improve living standards and provide social welfare services.

The government plays several roles in the economy as a regulator, service provider, job creator, and financial planner. Through effective taxation and economic management, governments can ensure fair competition, create employment opportunities, and maintain economic stability. When citizens understand this connection, they are better able to hold leaders accountable and advocate for transparency in the use of public funds.

Additionally, I have learned that understanding taxation improves financial literacy. It enables individuals and entrepreneurs to plan their income, savings, and investments wisely, while also helping them avoid penalties or debt traps. Tools such as online tax calculators, government portals and financial apps can help people learn about and comply with tax requirements more easily.

Finally, as young leaders and responsible citizens, it is important for us to promote tax awareness and compliance in our communities. Teaching tax education in schools and through KAFI Clubs can help young people develop integrity, accountability, and civic participation. By embracing taxation as a tool for nation-building, we can collectively empower our communities and contribute to Malawi’s sustainable economic growth.

In this module, I've learnt about taxes, government and economy. In our societies, essential services like roads, schools, hospitals, and security are financed by taxes. Therefore, understanding taxes helps people manage finances, avoid penalties, and consider paying taxes as a duty. Income tax, VAT, and excise charges are among the examples.

Tax funds are used by governments for budgetary planning, employment creation and economic regulation. Staying informed is made easier by resources like government portals, apps, and tax calculators. While entrepreneurs must account for taxes in order to operate compliant, sustainable firms. Paying taxes and supporting transparency increase both personal responsibility and national growth.

This module was About taxes and why they are important. I have leant that taxes fund public schools and hospitals . There are different types of taxes including income tax that comes from salaries and business profits , vat tax from purchases , property tax from land , corporate tax from business profits and customs tax from border trade goods . I have also leant that taxes are for the good of the country it’s not just about paying . I used to think they are brutal but now I understand that they are used on important things like health care , jobs and infrastructure. They help people with security of several things or we may take it as helping people to wisely put aside money for good use . The government’s role in taxation is divided into 4 things which are regulation to prevent fraudulent use of taxes , provision of services that the people pay taxes for , creation of jobs through making services better by taxation money eg employinh people to make roads better and in the future to have a better economy and living situation. Taxes in financial literacy help one to know that taxes are a responsibility and to also include them on their earnings so that one correctly plans . One may reach taxes through government portals , and online calculators thus thus helps one to have an idea of the taxes they pay so that they spend well . An entrepreneur must register business for tax ID , and have a tax budget including VAT and income and payroll tax that is seperate so that there is correct calculation of profits and expenses. I've learnt that taxes are compulsory contributions that are imposed on individuals by the government. It's important for young leaders to understand taxes, and the types of taxes that are imposed like income tax which is a tax levied on individuals that are earning an income, Value Added Tax which is a tax levied on goods and services, corporate tax levied on businesses and excuse duty levied on imports. Taxes are used to fund roads, infrastructure, hospitals and contribute to economic development. Therefore citizens must comply with their tax obligations to avoid penalties. I've also meant that tax is progressive meaning high income pay more tax than the lower income individuals. Lesson: Taxes keep a country running.Taxes are not just payments — they are the main way a government funds essential services.
Citizens and businesses both have responsibilities. Everyone contributes, directly or indirectly.A transparent government builds trust. Citizens are more willing to pay taxes when they see results. Accountability and proper management of public funds increase confidence and encourage compliance which in turn boosts the country’s growth. Tax evasion harms everyone.
When individuals or businesses avoid paying taxes, the country loses revenue. This slows development, reduces service quality and forces the government to borrow more — leading to debt and economic pressure. A well-managed economy improves daily life.

This topic has really come as a surprise to me, because I never understood fully and have a clear understanding about Taxes.

I have just been hearing taxes, taxes without clearly knowing what is really the meaning of tax and what it contains. Finally, I have gotten the clear understanding now of tax, which is a compulsory payments that an individual or businesses make to fund the public services.

I have really noted the variety and different types of taxes like income tax, sales tax corporate tax and many more.

I have also noted the key importance of taxes of which previously I never understood that truly tax is important and meaning in this way that even us we are able to benefit from the same money.

-First key thing is the fact that tax funds education, healthcare and also security.
-It reduces the inequality through welfare programs and also
-Support economic growth and job creation.
-Without forgetting the other key thing of the tax strengthening government capacity and social stability.

The money we are paying is the money we are benefiting. Just a rotation of our efforts which is good.

The topic is really awesome. Because it has made to ignore now the misconception I had earlier thinking as if tax is just a way in which the government chews the money of individuals and even thinking as if avoiding to pay tax is the key solutions, not knowing we are pulling out development and economy down.
