A KAFI Finance Leader from Madagascar, Tozeny Lundi Nehemia, is advancing financial literacy and promoting responsible financial habits among young people, adults, and women in his community through practical financial education and community outreach.
As a participant in the KAFI Finance Leader Fellowship (FLLF), Cohort 51, Tozeny has demonstrated how trained finance leaders can translate financial knowledge into meaningful community impact by taking financial education beyond the classroom and into everyday community settings.
Taking Financial Education to the Community
On October 22, 2026, Tozeny facilitated a financial literacy session at LENS Center, engaging 12 secondary school students on the importance of saving, budgeting, and responsible money management.
Recognising the importance of reaching beyond young people, he extended his outreach on October 25, 2026, using a family reunion as an opportunity to facilitate a 40-minute financial literacy awareness session for 26 adults.
For many participants, financial literacy was a relatively new subject. The sessions provided an opportunity to understand practical financial concepts and recognise how better money management can improve their everyday lives.
The positive feedback from participants demonstrated the importance of making financial education accessible to different age groups within the community.
Practical Lessons That Inspire Financial Behaviour
The impact of the outreach was reflected in the experiences shared by participants.
RAHARISON Bruce highlighted the importance of saving, setting financial goals, and planning towards specific financial needs. He particularly appreciated learning about the SMART method of setting clear and achievable financial goals. He recognised that developing small but consistent saving habits could help him manage his money better and prepare for future responsibilities.
Similarly, RABELAHASA Mac Wardit expressed his commitment to applying the lessons from the session, particularly on saving and financial planning.
Reflecting on a previous financial difficulty that he could not resolve because he had no savings set aside, Mac Wardit acknowledged the importance of building an emergency fund and developing a consistent savings culture.
These reflections demonstrate how financial education can move beyond theoretical knowledge to influence practical financial decisions.
Connecting Financial Literacy with Financial Access
Beyond awareness creation, Tozeny also demonstrated the relationship between financial literacy and access to financial opportunities.
He connected his community outreach with the LENS–Bridging Gaps Pay-It-Forward Microloan Initiative, through which 10 young people and women farmers received a total of €1,000, with each beneficiary receiving €100 to support income-generating activities.
Using this initiative as a practical learning opportunity, Tozeny emphasised the importance of saving, responsible loan management, and making informed financial decisions.
His approach reinforced an important message: access to finance must be accompanied by the knowledge and financial discipline required to use financial resources effectively.
By linking financial education with the microloan experience, he encouraged beneficiaries to view financial access not simply as an opportunity to receive funds, but also as a responsibility to manage resources wisely, strengthen their livelihoods, and develop sustainable financial habits.
Building Finance Leaders for Community Impact
Tozeny's activities reflect the vision of the KAFI Finance Leader Fellowship, a capacity-building programme designed to develop young people into practical finance leaders who can promote financial literacy, inclusion, and responsible financial participation in schools, workplaces, and communities.
Through its approach of training, certification, practical projects, and internship experience, KAFI seeks to equip emerging leaders with the skills and practical exposure required to contribute to the financial ecosystem.
His outreach in Madagascar demonstrates the value of empowering local finance leaders to identify opportunities within their communities and use their knowledge to create meaningful impact.
