Initiative seeks to equip students with practical financial knowledge while empowering teachers to champion financial literacy in schools
LAGOS, NIGERIA | August 5, 2026
KAFI Foundation has announced the opening of its next teacher onboarding for the KAFI Financial Literacy Club Initiative, inviting teachers across Nigeria to join efforts aimed at strengthening financial literacy education among students.
The initiative is designed to support schools in creating greater awareness of practical financial skills and helping young people develop the knowledge, mindset, and decision making abilities needed to navigate financial responsibilities throughout their lives.
With financial decisions increasingly affecting education, employment, entrepreneurship, family wellbeing, and economic participation, KAFI Foundation believes that financial literacy should be introduced early and reinforced through practical learning.
Empowering Teachers to Champion Financial Literacy
Teachers play a critical role in shaping the knowledge, attitudes, and future opportunities of young people.
Through the Financial Literacy Club Initiative, KAFI Foundation is seeking passionate educators who are willing to serve as champions of financial literacy within their schools.
Participating teachers will have an opportunity to support students in understanding important financial concepts and applying them to real life situations.
The initiative focuses on areas including:
- Saving and budgeting
- Money management
- Financial responsibility
- Needs and wants
- Entrepreneurship and opportunity awareness
- Financial decision making
- Developing responsible financial habits
- Preparing for a financially responsible future
The objective is to make financial education practical, relatable, and relevant to students rather than limiting financial literacy to theoretical concepts.
Building Financially Capable Young People
According to KAFI Foundation, young people need access to financial education that prepares them for the realities they will encounter beyond the classroom.
Understanding how to save, budget, prioritize needs, manage available resources, evaluate financial choices, and recognize entrepreneurial opportunities can provide young people with a stronger foundation for responsible financial participation.
The Financial Literacy Club Initiative therefore seeks to create an environment where students can begin developing these skills while they are still in school.
By engaging teachers as key facilitators, the initiative also aims to encourage financial literacy conversations within classrooms and school communities.
Why Teachers Matter
Teachers are uniquely positioned to influence young people at scale.
A single teacher can reach dozens of students in a classroom and potentially influence hundreds of students throughout their teaching career.
When financial literacy becomes part of the learning environment, students can begin taking financial concepts beyond the classroom and into their homes and communities.
KAFI Foundation believes that empowering teachers can therefore create a multiplier effect, enabling financial literacy knowledge to reach more young people through schools across Nigeria.
“One teacher can influence hundreds of students. By empowering teachers with the opportunity to champion financial literacy, we are investing in a generation that can make more informed financial decisions and approach their future with greater confidence and responsibility.”
KAFI Foundation's Commitment
KAFI Foundation is a youth focused nonprofit organization working to advance financial literacy, leadership, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.
Through its programs and initiatives, the Foundation seeks to expand access to practical financial education and create opportunities for young people and communities to develop skills relevant to their personal and economic development.
The KAFI Financial Literacy Club Initiative forms part of this broader commitment to strengthening financial literacy education and encouraging responsible financial habits among young people.

A Call to Educators Across Nigeria
KAFI Foundation is calling on teachers, school communities, education stakeholders, and other interested partners to recognize the importance of equipping young people with financial knowledge from an early age.
Financial literacy is not only about understanding money. It is about developing the capacity to make informed decisions, manage resources responsibly, recognize opportunities, and prepare for the future.
The Foundation believes that every student should have an opportunity to develop these skills, regardless of their background or location.
And teachers can play a significant role in making that possible.
One teacher can influence hundreds of students.
One school can influence an entire community.
Together, we can help build a financially literate generation.
